Electronic commerce can be viewed from different perspectives.
One of the most prominent ones is the on-line perspective that
emphasises the aspect of buying and selling products, information,
or services on the internet. Looking at the business transactions
from a communication perspective allows the efficient support of
the communication acts exchanged aiming at reaching a business
agreement. In this paper, we present an approach to supporting
electronic commerce transactions from a communication
perspective that is grounded in the tradition of the Language-
Action Perspective. A framework for efficient negotiation support
will be presented that enables human negotiators to retain control
over the negotiation process while exploiting the potential of
information technology for efficient support of the communicative
exchanges.
