Course Topics

To address and deepen your knowledge and skills from the Bachelor’s degree, the Department Intelligent Information Systems offers various courses in business-related master’s programs at the University of Hohenheim as well as in the Master of Information Systems at the Universities of Hohenheim and Stuttgart.

For all courses, the module “Interorganisational Negotiations” provides the basis for looking at communication within and between companies (i.e. organisations), using the example of negotiations and their electronic support. Based on this, the students of the economics master’s courses in the module “System Management” can acquire better knowledge in the areas of internet communication and web applications.

Starting from this technical basis, the integration of business processes using the example of document and knowledge management is investigated in the module “Process Management”. Students of Information Systems can acquire knowledge and skills in Information Systems research within the elective “Applied Information Systems Research Methods”, which is not only relevant for the Master Thesis, but is intended to prepare especially for a scientific career. Finally, the acquired knowledge is used in the module “Project Management” or for graduates of the major “Management Information Systems” in the so-called Schwerpunktseminar. You can also write the Master Thesis at the Department Intelligent Information Systems.

Structure of the Major Management Information Systems

You can attend the lectures in different combinations. Almost all of our courses for Master students are part of the major Management Information Systems, which is selectable in the business-related master’s courses at the University of Hohenheim. The module “Project Management” is open to students of Information Systems, the module “Applied IS Research Methods” as an elective in Information Systems.

You will also find our lectures in the major Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, as well as in the supplementary minors of Information Management and Technology Management.

All modules can be selected as free electives too.

Objective/ Occupational Fields

Based on the Bachelor’s degree, our Information Systems education qualifies you for a higher career in IT management or software development as well as for a scientific career. Graduates of the major Management Information Systems can make a career in a broad field. A career as a consultant, in particular an IT consultant, or in-house in the areas of IT project management, business process analysis, controlling up to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) illustrates the business skills of this major and the range of career fields, a career as a system analyst or enterprise system architect up to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) illustrates the technical aspects of this major.
